Lay your demons to sleep by putting them on paper
My mother finds it hard to sleep at night. What does she do before bedtime? She thinks of stuffs that she is not happy with! It is no wonder why she can’t sleep!
If you don’t practice mental hygiene, you’ll find it hard to sleep at night. You will think of today’s problems, while stressing about dealing with tomorrow. You turn and turn around in bed, like a blanket tornado. Maybe your body is even tired, but you just can’t sleep. Your brain is telling you that you have problems, and you have done nothing towards solving them.
Write it down clearly and legibly
Get a lamp light or something that isn’t so bright that it lights up the whole room. Get any piece of paper, and write down what bugs you. Write clearly so that your brain recognises that you are doing something about your problems. Transfer that stress from your brain to that piece of paper.
Now that you have clearly defined your problem, write down possible solutions without judgement. No matter how silly your ideas are now, just write them down, the more the better. Can you solve it yourself or do you need help? Write down who you may get help from, or where you can get help from. List down all possible solutions.
Make it a habit
If you can’t sleep, maybe your anxiety is trying to tell you something. Listen to it. Make it a mental habit of draining these excess thoughts at night before you allow yourself to sleep. You will find that you fall asleep much faster than previously, and a better quality sleep at that.
